I often leave appointments thinking I understood everything, then forget half of what was said. Is it appropriate to ask for a brief written summary or key points after appointments because of ADHD, or is that an unrealistic request in most services?

Yes, completely reasonable. Many adults with ADHD leave appointments understanding everything in the moment but forgetting details later. Asking for brief written summaries or next steps is an accommodation, not a burden. It supports adherence and reduces anxiety. You can also request bullet point plans or use secure messaging for clarification. Good care includes meeting patients where they are. Clear written plans improve outcomes.
