Frequently asked questions

What ages of children and teens does FasTreat see for ADHD assessment?

FasTreat’s pediatric ADHD service is for school-age children and teenagers from age 6 up to the age of majority in their province (18 or 19, depending on where you live). Once a young person reaches the age of majority, they are generally seen through our adult ADHD service. A parent or legal guardian must complete enrolment and provide consent for any minor.

How do I get started if I’m booking ADHD care for my child or teen?

The basic steps are similar to adults: you complete an online screening, create an account, fill in intake questionnaires, and choose an appointment time with a licensed provider for your province. For pediatric care, we’ll ask a parent or legal guardian to answer most questions, provide consent, and upload any school reports or past assessments. You may also be able to share optional teacher or school questionnaires so your provider can see how your child is doing in the classroom.

What should my child and I do to prepare for a pediatric ADHD appointment?

Your child’s visit is a secure video appointment where the provider talks with you and your child together and, when appropriate, separately.
How to prepare

Find a quiet, private, and safe space for your call

Ensure a stable internet connection

Do not drive during the session

If available, upload any relevant documents in advance, such as:

Completed assessments or school report cards

Previous diagnostic notes or referrals

Notes from therapists who suspect ADHD but cannot diagnose

What to know

There are no “right” or “wrong” answers

Your child can take breaks or bring a comfort item if that helps them feel at ease.

Is an online ADHD assessment safe and reliable for children and teens?

Telehealth ADHD assessments can be clinically appropriate for many children and teens when used within established guidelines. However, some situations require in-person assessment or psychological testing, and your provider will guide you if virtual care is not suitable. FasTreat’s pediatric process combines detailed history and questionnaires with a live video visit, where the provider talks with you, observes your child, and reviews symptoms against recognised diagnostic criteria. If your child’s situation is too complex or not suitable for virtual care—for example, serious safety concerns or the need for in-depth testing—your provider will explain this and recommend more appropriate local options.

Who will see my child at FasTreat, and do they have pediatric ADHD experience?

Pediatric ADHD visits at FasTreat are provided by licensed clinicians such as nurse practitioners and physicians who are authorised to practise in your province. All pediatric providers receive training in ADHD assessment and treatment for children and adolescents and follow Canadian ADHD practice guidelines. They can also collaborate with your child’s family doctor and, with your consent, share summaries that help other members of your child’s care team stay informed.

Can FasTreat help with school or exam accommodations for my child?

In some cases, once your child has been assessed and followed over time, your provider may be able to complete documentation or letters to support school or exam accommodations, if they believe it is clinically appropriate. Any documents must accurately reflect your child’s diagnosis, treatment, and level of functional impact, and acceptance is always up to the school, board, or testing organisation. These letters may have specific eligibility criteria, processing times, and administrative fees, which are outlined in FasTreat’s documentation policy and can be discussed with your provider.
