Vyvanse vs Adderall XR for inattentive adults — how did you and your doctor choose?
Prescription appointment is in two weeks and my psychiatrist basically handed me a menu: Vyvanse or Adderall XR, "both reasonable choices." Cool. Great. Love deciding my brain chemistry off vibes.
If you've been on either or both — what was the actual lived difference? And what do I ask in that appointment that gets past the pamphlet answers? Newly diagnosed, 26, inattentive-type, Alberta.

Questions that got me useful answers at that appointment: 'what does a bad reaction to each look like and how fast does it fade' (lisdexamfetamine hangs around longer — matters if it goes wrong), 'which is cheaper on my specific plan' (they can't always answer but the pharmacist can), and 'if #1 fails how quickly can we pivot.' The last one reframed the whole thing — it's not a marriage, it's a first trial.

Was you two years ago, went Vyvanse first for one boring practical reason: once-daily prodrug = can't really mess up the timing, and my whole problem is timing. Adderall XR gives more flexibility (some people split strategy with their doctor) but flexibility and I have a bad history. Know your own failure modes and pick the med that survives them.

Data point: inattentive, tried both, ended on neither — methylphenidate class ended up my fit. Mentioning because the vs-debate always assumes the answer is one of the two amphetamines. Sometimes it's door three.
