An Ontario walk-in clinic can sometimes renew prescriptions while you wait for a family doctor, but renewal is not guaranteed, and controlled drugs are the most likely to be refused or limited to a short supply. OHIP covers medically necessary physician and nurse practitioner services in Ontario, including walk-in care when it is medically necessary; that pays for the insured visit, not automatically for every refill you request. Ontario nurse practitioners who have completed approved controlled-drug education may prescribe those medicines, and College guidance on episodic care is to prescribe the minimum needed until a regular provider is available, which is not the same as becoming your long-term ADHD or hormone prescriber. Physicians at walk-ins similarly set clinic policies and can decline medicines they cannot monitor. Public drug programs such as the Ontario Drug Benefit or OHIP+ are separate from the visit and have their own eligibility rules. FasTreat also offers private online ADHD assessment and ongoing care, depending on your needs and clinical assessment. This is only my personal experience in Ontario, not a rule for other patients. While I waited for a family doctor I used a walk-in for two years for ordinary refills like blood pressure pills. They would not renew a controlled medicine and told me to find a regular provider for that. I am not claiming every Ontario walk-in will do even the non-controlled refills.
