OHIP does not pay for outpatient ADHD prescription drugs in Ontario; it can pay for a medically necessary psychiatrist or other physician visit when that visit is an insured service. After you leave a hospital, prescribed medications are generally not an OHIP physician-visit benefit. Drug coverage, if any, comes from a different Ontario program or from private insurance. Eligible people 24 and under with valid OHIP and no private drug plan may get listed drugs through OHIP+, which is an Ontario Drug Benefit stream, not a Canada-wide program and not automatic for every student. ADHD drugs are a listed OHIP+ category when the product is on the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary, but you still need a valid prescription and you should have the pharmacist check the current e-Formulary rather than assume a brand is a benefit.
Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program.
