You can ask an Ontario walk-in physician or nurse practitioner for a psychiatrist referral for ADHD while you wait for a family doctor, but they are not required to refer, and a referral does not create a short wait. OHIP covers medically necessary physician and nurse practitioner services in Ontario, including walk-in visits when they are medically necessary; a private psychologist or psychoeducational assessment is not listed as an OHIP insured physician service. The walk-in clinician may take a history, decline to diagnose ADHD in a single episodic visit, or send a referral to a local psychiatry program. CAMH Access CAMH currently lists ADHD assessment and treatment among services they are unable to offer, and Adult Neurodevelopmental Services is for adults with intellectual disability and/or autism diagnostic assessment, not an ADHD clinic, so a CAMH-shaped referral is not a published adult ADHD waitlist. CAMH does publish professional ADHD education pages and community resource materials that clinicians sometimes use for navigation.
FasTreat also offers private online ADHD assessment and ongoing care, depending on your needs and clinical assessment.
