Felt awful first dose of ADHD meds Elvense

I took my first dose yesterday. I’d eaten a small packet of biscuits and had another packet whilst out. It made me very jittery, I had a sudden euphoric feeling, mind went quiet which made me panic a bit then I continued to feel very jittery. I went home and crashed. Felt so tired I had to lie down and got a headache. Had some food and rested and felt better. I had a headache for the rest of the day. I’m not sure it’s the right dose?

Symptoms such as those you experienced can be from failing to eat something with protein prior to taking your medication, but they can also occur as a temporary situation when you first start your medication or when the dose is too high. I would start by ensuring you've eaten something with both protein and fat prior to your next dose. It really does help with the absorption rate and can "smooth" out the impact. The headache is a common side effect when starting stimulants and may resolve over time. If your symptoms fail to improve with the food and time than it may in fact be that the dose is too high or the medication is the wrong option. Please keep us informed, we're here to help.
