If your family doctor refers you to CAMH psychiatry instead of Adult Neurodevelopmental Services for adult ADHD in Ontario, the referral still does not create a published CAMH ADHD wait, because Access CAMH currently lists ADHD assessment and treatment among services it is unable to offer. Sending the form to psychiatry rather than ANS does not change that list. ANS would not have been the correct ADHD door anyway: it is for intellectual disability and/or autism care and autism diagnosis in eligible adults, not an ADHD clinic, and its waits can be several years for those published services. Access CAMH is the centralized intake; for most mental health services a physician or NP referral is required, and Access CAMH can explain eligibility. A psychiatry referral might be reviewed for another mental health concern your doctor documented, or it may not lead to ADHD care at CAMH. FasTreat also offers private online ADHD assessment and ongoing care, depending on your needs and clinical assessment.
