You have changed my life! My family doctor was so dismissive but I was reaching crises mode in my life and wasn’t coping. It was so liberating to be heard and I can not believe what a difference the medication made. Honestly, the next morning I noticed a difference. I just can’t believe it, it was like a switch was turned on. I can’t say enough about how warm and compassionate Lekha has been. I actually have sent a link to my sister and a coworker who both got assessed through Fastreat and they both said the same thing, no judgement just a safe place to talk.

Getting to Know Ms. L. Mathew
What inspired your journey as an NP and your focus on mental health?
My journey into becoming a Nurse Practitioner began with a passion for patient-centered care. I completed my BSN, followed by an MSN and NP certification, and gained experience in mental health where I recognized the impact of undiagnosed mental health struggles. This inspired me to specialize in mental health care.
What is your philosophy or approach when it comes to mental health care?
My approach is compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based, combining medication, education, and practical strategies. Telepsychiatry improves access by offering flexible, timely care, especially for those with barriers to in-person visits.
How do you see telepsychiatry improving access to mental health care?
Telepsychiatry removes critical barriers to mental health care, particularly for those in rural or underserved areas where specialists are scarce. It offers flexibility for individuals with demanding schedules, reducing the need for lengthy travel and time off work.
For many, the comfort of a familiar home environment eases the initial anxiety of evaluation, fostering more open communication. This model enables consistent follow-ups, which are vital for medication management and behavioral strategies.
Ultimately, telepsychiatry transforms mental health care from a logistical challenge into an accessible, patient-centered experience, ensuring timely diagnosis and continuous support for those who need it most.
What's one thing you hope your patients feel after their first session with you?
After the first assessment, patients should feel heard, validated, and understood. As a provider, I expect them to leave with a sense of clarity-knowing that their struggles have been taken seriously and that a thoughtful plan is in place. They should feel relief in realizing their challenges are not character flaws but symptoms of a treatable condition.
Most importantly, they should feel hopeful, trusting that they now have a knowledgeable, compassionate partner in their care who will guide them toward effective treatment and lasting improvement.
What would you like to share with your patients as you begin this journey with FasTreat?
As we begin with FasTreat, I encourage openness and collaboration-we are partners in your care.
If you could describe your approach to mental health care in three words, what would they be?
In one sentence, what does mental health support mean to you?
Mental health support means empowering individuals to understand themselves and thrive.
