You can get virtual hormone replacement therapy prescribing covered as an OHIP insured visit in Ontario only when a clinician who provides insured services delivers a medically necessary virtual appointment; it is not available from every website, and it is not a Canada-wide benefit. Ontario’s public page states that medically necessary virtual visits by video or telephone can be insured in the same way as medically necessary in-person doctor visits. Your OHIP card has to be valid, and the prescriber has to be able to provide insured care in Ontario. A private virtual gender clinic that charges a membership or visit fee is not OHIP just because it is online. Nurse practitioner HRT visits in publicly funded settings typically do not invoice the patient, but a private NP service might.
Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program.

Different experience, also just mine. I tried a private video HRT service while I waited for a family doctor and paid out of pocket because they said they do not bill OHIP. Later an NP at a publicly funded clinic did a virtual follow-up with my health card and sent a prescription to my pharmacy. Coverage of the visit and coverage of the patches were not the same thing for me. I am sharing a personal story, not a province-wide promise.

This is only my personal experience in Ontario, not a rule for other people. I booked a virtual visit with a family doctor who billed OHIP, showed my health card on camera, and they continued my existing estrogen prescription after asking safety questions. They would not start a new medication that day. A friend paid a private virtual clinic the same month and that invoice was not OHIP. I am not saying every virtual platform bills the public plan.
