Small changes in plans throw off my entire day
If something in my schedule shifts, even slightly, I feel disproportionately upset or disoriented. It feels embarrassing because I know it’s not a big deal. Why do changes hit me so hard emotionally?

ADHD brains rely heavily on mental maps of the day. When plans change, that map collapses and has to be rebuilt, which takes energy and time. Even small shifts can feel disproportionately disruptive because they trigger reorientation and emotional regulation at once.
This reaction is not over sensitivity. It is a response to cognitive load. Building buffer time and flexible expectations can reduce the impact, but the reaction itself is a known and common ADHD experience.
