Different experience, also just mine in Ontario. Our paediatrician would not diagnose at age five and referred us onward; they said they wanted more time and school data. A neighbour's child got a diagnosis from a paediatrician without private testing. I am sharing two different outcomes I saw, not a rule that OHIP always equals a same-day diagnosis or that every young child is treated the same.

This is only my personal experience in Ontario, not a promise. Our paediatrician diagnosed our young child with ADHD over two OHIP visits using parent and teacher forms. We did not pay for a private psychoeducational assessment first. The school later asked for more learning testing for an IEP, which was a separate process. I am not saying every paediatrician will diagnose this way.
