Does my child need a full psychoeducational report for an IEP or is a pediatrician ADHD diagnosis enough in Ontario?

A pediatrician ADHD diagnosis can support an Individual Education Plan request in Ontario, but it does not automatically create an IEP, and a full private psychoeducational report is not a Ministry of Education requirement for every student. Ontario describes an IEP as a written plan of special education programs, accommodations, and services based on a thorough assessment of a student’s strengths, needs, and ability to learn. An IEP must be developed after an Identification, Placement, and Review Committee identifies a student as exceptional, and an IEP may also be developed for a student who has not been identified by an IPRC but who still needs special education programs or services. That is a school-board education process, not a federal program, and it is not the same as provincial health insurance. OHIP is Ontario only.
