Ontario telehealth or virtual-care clinicians often refuse to start or refill controlled substances and many weight-loss medicines, and a platform profile that lists those exclusions is a real clinic policy, not a glitch. A family doctor's refusal also does not create a right to a prescription from a virtual service. This is Ontario practice plus federal controlled-drug law, not a Canada-wide telehealth rule. Stimulant ADHD medicines and some other drugs are federally controlled, so extra prescription and monitoring rules apply, and episodic virtual care is a poor fit for long-term controlled-drug management. For Ozempic, Ontario Drug Benefit Limited Use funding is tied to type 2 diabetes criteria published on the formulary Limited Use notes; it is not a public weight-loss benefit for people who do not meet those criteria.
Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program.

Different story, still only my personal experience. I asked an Ontario virtual clinic to refill a GLP-1 I had started privately. They said they do not do weight-loss prescribing and would not complete the request even though I offered to pay cash. A friend in another city got a short in-person review instead. I am not claiming this is how every Ontario service works.

This is only my own personal experience in Ontario. I booked a virtual walk-in because my family doctor was away, and the doctor's profile said they would not prescribe controlled substances or weight-loss drugs. They renewed my blood pressure pills and sent me back to my GP for everything else. I am not saying every telehealth doctor refuses; that is just what happened to me.
