I get intensely focused on the wrong things at the wrong time
I can spend hours deep-diving into something irrelevant while avoiding what actually matters. It’s not a lack of focus — it feels misdirected. Why does my attention work like this?

With ADHD if you are not on the right amount of medication you can find this occurring regularly.
What I have seen in my years of practice is people with ADHD do intense studying and deep diving on very specific topics which can be seen as a "waste of time". I find when we work together and have the right type of medication along with therapy in some cases these events do not happen as regularly.
On the right medication you will find you are doing deep dives for the right subject and will keep hyper-focused until you have finished the task at hand (even those pesky subjects that may not engage you!).
ADHD needs to be managed and once harnessed correctly, it can be amazing. It will no longer be a burden but a gift.
