After long deep-focus periods I crash hard. Is that typical?

Yes, and it is very real. Hyperfocus uses a large amount of mental and physical energy, even if it feels productive or enjoyable at the time. During these periods, people often forget to eat, hydrate, rest, or shift positions. When the focus breaks, the nervous system crashes, leading to fatigue, irritability, brain fog, or low mood. This is not a failure of stamina. It is a rebound effect from prolonged effort without recovery. Planning intentional breaks, fuel, and transitions can reduce the severity of the crash. Learning to notice early signs of depletion is often more helpful than trying to avoid hyperfocus altogether.
