Emotional intensity and rapid shifts can absolutely be part of ADHD. Emotional regulation relies on the same executive systems that support attention. When overwhelmed, the nervous system can spike quickly.
Arguments can trigger rejection sensitivity, past criticism, or feeling misunderstood. That combination can feel like getting hit by a wave.
That said, trauma history or anxiety can amplify this too. The key is noticing patterns and building regulation skills, not labeling yourself as dramatic.
