I feel embarrassed needing help with simple stuff. Does anyone else feel this way?

Yes, this feeling is incredibly common, and it comes from years of internalized messaging rather than actual weakness. Many adults with ADHD grew up being told they were lazy, careless, or capable of more if they just tried harder. Over time, that can turn everyday support needs into something that feels embarrassing or undeserved. Needing help with tasks that look simple on the outside does not mean they are simple for your brain. ADHD affects executive functioning, not intelligence or effort. Learning to ask for help is often part of healing shame, not reinforcing it. You are not failing at independence. You are adapting to how your brain actually works.
