My partner thinks meds will “change my personality”. Is that true?
I’m planning to start treatment but my partner is worried I’ll become a different person.
How do you usually explain what actually changes when treatment begins?

This is such a common fear. The goal of ADHD medication is not to change who you are. It is to reduce the noise that makes it harder for you to access your strengths.
When medication is dosed appropriately, most people describe feeling more like themselves, not less. They can follow through on ideas, regulate emotions more smoothly, and experience less internal chaos.
If someone feels flat, irritable, or unlike themselves, that usually signals a dose issue or medication mismatch. That is something we adjust, not ignore.
Your personality is not created by your symptoms. Treatment is meant to support you, not erase you.
