What does it mean when ADHD medication works for focus but not follow-through?
Medication helps me focus, but I still struggle to initiate or complete tasks. How do clinicians interpret this response?

This is actually a very common experience. Medication can improve alertness and attention without fully solving task initiation, planning, or completion. Focus is only one part of executive functioning. Follow through also requires sequencing, prioritization, emotional regulation, and starting at the right moment.
When this happens, clinicians often look at dose timing, task structure, and additional supports rather than assuming medication is failing. Many people still need external structure, routines, or coaching even when medication helps focus. Medication is a tool, not a complete fix, and this pattern does not mean you are doing something wrong.
