I can start tasks but finishing them is torture. Is that ADHD?

Yes, very commonly. Many adults with ADHD can start tasks but find finishing them disproportionately hard. Endings require sustained attention, error checking, decision making, and often emotional tolerance for boredom or frustration. As novelty fades, dopamine drops, and the brain loses momentum. This can make the final stretch feel torturous, even if most of the work is already done. Clinicians often frame this as follow through difficulty rather than poor work ethic. Strategies focus on redefining what “done” means, breaking endings into visible steps, or using external deadlines to create closure. Struggling to finish is a core ADHD pattern, not a sign of laziness.
