I've always felt emotionally intense. Does ADHD explain that?

Yes. Emotional sensitivity is a core but under discussed part of ADHD. Many people feel emotions more intensely, react quickly, and take longer to settle. Before diagnosis, this is often labeled as being “too sensitive” or “overreacting.” In ADHD, emotional regulation is part of executive functioning. When regulation is harder, emotions can feel bigger and harder to manage. This sensitivity often exists long before anyone connects it to ADHD. Understanding this can be incredibly validating. It reframes emotional intensity as neurological, not personal weakness.
