Yes, for some adults sensory processing differences are the most noticeable part of ADHD. Noise, bright lights, crowded spaces, or background stimulation can quickly overwhelm the nervous system. This does not mean you are scatterbrained or inattentive in the stereotypical sense. ADHD involves difficulty filtering input, so everything comes in at once. Clinicians often see people who function well cognitively but struggle in sensory heavy environments. Reducing sensory load is a legitimate part of ADHD management and not an avoidance strategy.
