Do adults with ADHD often struggle more with friendships than making new friends?
I don't have too much trouble meeting people, but I'm terrible at keeping in touch and maintaining friendships over time. Is that something you commonly see with ADHD adults, and how do you talk to patients about it?

Yes, that pattern is common. Many adults with ADHD are warm, engaging, and great at initial connection. The challenge tends to be consistency. Forgetting to reply, losing track of time, or feeling overwhelmed can impact maintenance of friendships. There can also be rejection sensitivity, which makes small misunderstandings feel bigger. The issue is rarely lack of care. It is usually executive function and emotional regulation. With awareness and small systems in place, relationships can feel much more stable.
