I keep delaying contacting a psychiatrist because I'm scared my problems aren't 'bad enough' and I'll be wasting your time. Is this a feeling you come across often, and what would you want someone like me to know?

Very often. Shame and self doubt are powerful barriers. Many adults worry their struggles are not severe enough. In reality, if something is impacting your functioning or causing distress, it is valid to seek help. Assessments are not reserved for crisis only. Early support can prevent escalation. You are not wasting anyone’s time by wanting clarity. That is responsible, not dramatic.
