Vyvanse worked great for 2 months, now it barely does anything — tolerance or wrong dose?

Those first two months I genuinely thought I'd been handed a new brain. Cleaned my apartment, answered emails the day they arrived, the whole montage. Now? I take it and wait and… nothing. Same 40mg of Vyvanse, same routine, same sleep (I checked, roughly 7hrs). It's been fading for maybe three weeks. Everyone online screams "tolerance" but my psychiatrist made it sound rare at this dose. Before my follow-up — how does a doctor actually tell tolerance apart from "the honeymoon ended and this was never the right dose"? For context I'm 29, in Ontario, diagnosed six months ago.

Counterpoint to the poster above: mine really was underdosing. 40mg was a starter dose that happened to feel huge against 29 years of nothing. Kept a two-week log (focus 1-10, morning vs afternoon) before my follow-up and the afternoon numbers made the case for me. Log beats vibes, doctors respond to patterns.

Third option nobody mentions: check your refill. Mine 'stopped working' the exact month my pharmacy switched manufacturers. Might be nothing, but worth ruling out before you change doses.

The honeymoon thing is real and nobody warns you. Mine faded around month 3 and I was SURE it was tolerance. Psychiatrist bumped me 40→50, barely helped. What actually helped: realizing the first two months I was also riding the novelty of finally having an explanation for my whole life. The med didn't stop working — the fireworks stopped. The boring baseline improvement was still there when I learned to look for it.
