Quit caffeine for 30 days after starting Vyvanse — here's what actually changed
Coffee has always calmed me down. Found out recently that's apparently a whole Thing in this community, which, hello, nice to meet you all.
Kept my 3-cup habit after starting Vyvanse because identity, until afternoon jitters and a heart rate I could feel in my teeth suggested an experiment: 30 days, zero caffeine. Results — week 1: headaches, mourning, would not recommend as an experience. Weeks 2-4: jitters gone, falling asleep noticeably faster, and the meds honestly feel smoother without the overlay. Plot twist I didn't expect: mornings BEFORE the dose kicks in are now rough. Coffee was apparently doing real work in that 6-8am window and I never noticed.
Landed on: one cup, mornings only. 27M, Ontario. For the clinicians — is stimulant + caffeine meaningfully additive, and is the "coffee calms me" thing actually indicative of anything, or community folklore?

The rough-mornings plot twist matches my quit attempt exactly — turns out 'pre-dose caffeine bridge' was a real load-bearing part of my routine. Landed on the same one-cup treaty. The 6-8am window question feels underexplored in general: everything about timing assumes the day starts when the med does.

The 'coffee calms me' origin story count in this thread alone should be a research grant application. Mine goes: three espressos, immediate nap, age 19, roommate concerned. Assessor smiled when I told her but was clear it's a common anecdote, not a diagnostic — which the number of us in this forum somehow both confirms.
