What do you wish more patients knew before starting their first antidepressant?
I'm about to start my first antidepressant and I'm nervous. From your side of the desk, what expectations, myths or fears would you most want patients to have cleared up before they begin?

I wish more people knew that improvement is gradual. Antidepressants are not instant mood lifters. It can take weeks to notice meaningful change. Early side effects often settle. We start low, go slow, and monitor closely. It is okay to adjust or switch if needed. Starting medication does not lock you in forever. It is a trial, guided by your response and comfort.
