This is often described as task paralysis. It’s not laziness and it’s not a lack of desire. The brain struggles to initiate action when a task feels unclear, overwhelming, or emotionally loaded, even if it’s objectively small. In ADHD, the gap between intention and action can be huge. You may want to do the task, think about it constantly, and still feel unable to start. This creates frustration and self blame, but neurologically it’s an initiation issue. Once started, momentum often builds. The barrier is the starting point, not the task itself.
