What worked in earlier grades no longer seems sufficient. How do clinicians think about updating accommodations as students get older?

Yes. Clinically, accommodations are expected to evolve. As academic demands increase, executive load increases. What worked in early grades may no longer be enough when tasks require more planning, independence, and sustained effort. Clinicians reassess based on current functional impact, not past success. Supports may need to expand to include workload adjustments, planning support, or different testing formats. Needing new accommodations does not mean regression. It means the environment changed. Updating accommodations is appropriate and often necessary to prevent burnout and emotional overwhelm.
