Parent and university insurance in Ontario can sometimes be coordinated toward a private ADHD assessment, but together they still may not cover the full fee, and neither plan is OHIP. OHIP covers medically necessary physician and nurse practitioner services; a private psychologist or psychoeducational ADHD assessment is not listed as an OHIP insured physician service. Student extended health and a parent's employer plan are private insurance. Coverage varies by province. Coverage varies by insurance plan. Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program. This is only my own experience as an Ontario student, not a template for other families. We billed my mum's work plan first and the university plan second. Together they covered part of a private ADHD assessment and I still paid a large remainder because the testing maximums were small. I am not saying stacked insurance will finish the bill for other families.

Different personal experience, also in Ontario. My student plan refused the diagnostic assessment and only offered counselling hours. My dad's insurer paid a psychology maximum after I submitted a predetermination, which was less than half the invoice. I still paid the rest myself and kept both explanation-of-benefits letters. I am sharing what happened to me, not a national insurance rule.
