Ontario does not set a single birthday at which a young person can consent to ADHD medical care. Under the Health Care Consent Act, consent is based on capacity, not on turning 16 or 18. A person is capable if they can understand the information that is relevant to making a decision about the treatment and can appreciate the reasonably foreseeable consequences of a decision or lack of decision. A capable younger teen may consent to an assessment or a medication discussion; an older teen who cannot meet the capacity test would need a substitute decision-maker as the Act describes. Capacity can be treatment-specific, so agreeing to an assessment is not the same as agreeing to a stimulant trial.
Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program.
