Does OHIP cover any part of an adult ADHD assessment? Confused by psychologist vs psychiatrist
Trying to draw myself a map of the Ontario system before I pick a door, because every path seems to have an asterisk. My current understanding — please correct:
Psychiatrist: covered by OHIP, needs a referral, wait measured in geological time.
Psychologist: no referral needed, fast, but thousands out of pocket, and can't prescribe.
Some telehealth platforms: bill OHIP, physician-led? This one seems too good so I assume there's a catch.
Is the map right? What's the cheapest legitimate route that ends in actual treatment if the diagnosis is warranted, not just an expensive PDF? 40F, Ottawa, no family doctor since mine retired.

The correction: 'psychologist can't prescribe' is the key missing arrow — that route needs a physician appended to it no matter what, so its true cost is $2,400 + finding a doctor anyway. Which reorders the whole decision for treatment-seekers. The OHIP-telehealth catch you're looking for mostly amounts to: availability varies, and stimulant-prescribing policies differ between platforms, so ask that question in the intake call before investing weeks.

One more node for the map: some family doctors will initiate ADHD treatment themselves off a positive screener + history, no psychiatrist involved. It's practice-dependent — mine wouldn't, my partner's would. If you HAVE any GP access at all, asking 'would you be comfortable managing this yourself' before mapping external routes can collapse the whole flowchart.
