Is generic methylphenidate really identical to brand Concerta? My refill feels different
Pharmacy swapped me to generic methylphenidate ER last refill without really mentioning it, and the afternoons feel shorter. Noticeably. My pharmacist gave me the bioequivalence speech and honestly she's probably right and it's probably in my head?? But I've now read enough posts describing this exact thing that I'm suspicious. Can generics with the same active ingredient genuinely release differently, or is this the world's most consistent placebo effect? And is "can I go back on brand" even a conversation worth having, or does insurance make it pointless? BC, 36F.

Devil's advocate because I think both things are true: I switched generic↔brand twice, felt differences both times, in both directions. At some point I had to admit my expectations were running the experiment. The manufacturer question is legit — but so is tracking a week of ratings before deciding the afternoon is actually shorter vs feels shorter.

Not in your head. Same thing happened with a manufacturer switch (both 'generic methylphenidate ER' but different release tech — my pharmacist explained the OROS pump patent thing). Ask your pharmacy which manufacturer they stock and whether they can order the one that worked. Mine could, it just took asking.
