Private extended health in British Columbia can reimburse a psychologist ADHD assessment even if you have no family doctor, but only if your particular plan covers that provider and that service, and MSP will not pay the psychologist's fee. MSP covers medically required physician services, not private psychological testing. Group extended health is a private contract; some booklets pay registered psychologists without a GP referral, while others require a physician note, cap hours, or exclude assessments and pay only counselling. Coverage varies by province. Coverage varies by insurance plan.
Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program.

This is only my personal experience in B.C. I had no GP. My work extended health paid a registered psychologist ADHD assessment as a psychology benefit without a doctor referral, up to my annual cap, and I paid the rest. A cousin's plan on a different employer booklet demanded a GP letter we could not get. I am not saying every plan works like mine.

Different personal story, and this is only my personal experience in B.C., not a national insurance rule. I submitted a private psychologist invoice with no family doctor attached and the insurer denied it as an assessment rather than counselling. I later used walk-in care for other issues while still waiting for a GP. A coworker on another employer booklet got a partial payment. I am not saying every unattached patient will be denied.
