Extended health in British Columbia might reimburse part of a private ADHD assessment if your group or individual plan includes psychology or mental-health practitioner benefits and the assessor is an eligible provider, but it will not necessarily cover a large share of a multi-thousand-dollar private clinic fee. Coverage is a private-plan contract, not MSP and not PharmaCare. MSP covers medically required physician services; it does not pay a private psychologist invoice, and it does not pay prescription drugs. Many extended health plans set an annual psychology maximum, a per-visit cap, a requirement that the provider be a registered psychologist, or an exclusion for educational or vocational testing. Some plans treat a diagnostic assessment like therapy hours and stop when the yearly maximum is used. Rules, coverage and referral pathways vary by province and can change; confirm the current position with the relevant institution or provincial program. Different experience, still only mine. My partner’s plan asked for a physician referral and then reimbursed psychologist hours at 80 percent until a small cap. The psychoeducational extra tests were denied as educational testing. We still owed most of the private clinic fee after that claim. I am sharing what happened to us, not a rule for BC residents in general.

This is only my personal experience in B.C. I used extended health for a private psychologist ADHD assessment. The plan paid the yearly psychology maximum, which was much smaller than the clinic quote, and I paid the rest. MSP did not touch the psychologist bill. A coworker with a different employer booklet got a higher mental-health maximum. I am not saying extended health will cover a large part for other people.
