I'm worried because my parents don't remember much. Is childhood info absolutely necessary?

Childhood information is helpful, but lack of detailed memories does not automatically rule out ADHD. Many adults worry because parents do not remember symptoms or minimize them. Clinicians understand that memory fades, family dynamics vary, and many children were never flagged because they were quiet, bright, or compensating. Assessment focuses on patterns over time, not perfect recall. Report cards, old comments, or even consistent adult symptoms that clearly trace back developmentally can still support a diagnosis. The goal is to understand lifelong functioning, not to prove childhood struggles beyond doubt.
