I feel like I’m always behind, even when nothing is actually wrong
There’s this constant background feeling that I should be catching up on something. Even during calm periods, I don’t feel settled. Where does this persistent sense of being behind come from?

This constant sense of being behind is very common in ADHD. It comes from time blindness, difficulty tracking completion, and a lifetime of catching up. Because ADHD brains struggle to feel finished, there is rarely a sense of closure. Tasks blur together and progress is hard to register. Many people also internalized urgency as a coping strategy, so calm feels unsafe. Clinically, this is not a sign that something is actually wrong. It is a nervous system stuck in anticipatory mode. External markers of completion, deliberate rest, and reducing overcommitment help retrain that sense of pace.
