For adults with ADHD, do you approach treatment differently if they also suspect autism?

I relate to both ADHD and autistic traits and I'm not sure which is affecting me more. When an adult presents with both, does it change how you plan ADHD treatment (medication, therapy, coaching), or do you mostly treat ADHD similarly regardless?

Yes, and gently. When someone relates to both ADHD and autistic traits, I slow things down and look at patterns across their whole life. There is significant overlap, but the supports can differ. ADHD treatment may focus more on executive functioning and medication response, while autism support often centers around sensory regulation, social communication, and burnout prevention. The key is not forcing everything into one label. We focus on what is functionally impairing and what strengths are present. Many adults benefit from tailored strategies that respect both neurotypes rather than trying to separate them rigidly.
