I set routines, feel excited, and drop them after two days. Is this ADHD?

Yes, this is one of the most frustrating and common ADHD experiences. Motivation is usually not the problem. Execution is. In ADHD, routines rely on consistent initiation, working memory, and self regulation, all of which are part of executive functioning. You can feel genuinely excited, committed, and determined, and still struggle to repeat the behavior once novelty wears off. Early success often comes from novelty and intention. After a few days, that stimulation fades and the routine requires sustained effort without an immediate reward. At that point, the brain struggles to re engage. This is why people often blame themselves for being inconsistent, even though the issue is neurological. Clinicians recognize this pattern as difficulty with habit formation, not lack of discipline.
