Do kids with ADHD react strongly to holiday schedule changes
During holidays my kid loses all structure and gets overwhelmed. Is this typical?

Yes, very commonly. Many kids with ADHD rely heavily on routine to feel regulated and safe, even if they do not appear rigid. Holidays disrupt sleep, meals, expectations, and sensory load all at once. What looks like excitement can quickly turn into overwhelm or emotional meltdowns.
This is not misbehavior or lack of gratitude. It is a nervous system struggling without its usual anchors. Keeping small routines, predictable check ins, and clear expectations during breaks can make a big difference. Structure does not ruin holidays for these kids. It often helps them enjoy them more.
