How do non-stimulant ADHD meds compare for adults who can't tolerate stimulants?
I've tried two different stimulants and both made my sleep and anxiety much worse, even at low doses. My psychiatrist mentioned atomoxetine or guanfacine as possible options. For adults, how do non-stimulant meds compare in terms of improving focus, motivation and organisation, and what trade-offs do you usually see?

Non stimulant options can be very helpful, especially for those who experience significant anxiety, insomnia, or appetite suppression on stimulants. They tend to have a slower onset and may feel more subtle, but for some patients they provide steady improvement in focus and emotional regulation. They can also be useful when anxiety or mood symptoms coexist. Response varies, so we approach it as a monitored trial. The right medication is the one that improves function with tolerable side effects.
