Demystifying mine because the night before, I was googling exactly this thread and it didn't exist. Ontario, 33F, two hours, here's the anatomy: First ~20 min: life history. School, jobs, relationships, and — no one warns you — driving record. Apparently fender-benders are data. Middle hour: structured symptom questions, current AND before age 12, and after nearly every "yes" came "give me a specific example." They want scenes, not adjectives. "I'm disorganized" gets a follow-up; "I found my passport in the freezer in June" gets a note. Last stretch: ruling things out — sleep, anxiety, depression, substances, thyroid. Homework: two rating scales, one for someone who knew child-me. No brain scans, no computer games, no gotchas. Closer to the most thorough conversation anyone's ever had about my life than an exam. Question for the clinicians: in those "specific example" follow-ups — what are you actually listening for? I've always wondered what separated a convincing example from a vague one.

The 'scenes not adjectives' framing should be pinned to the top of every pre-assessment thread. I went in with rehearsed adjectives and watched them evaporate under the first 'can you give me a specific example.' The passport-in-the-freezer genre of evidence is exactly what landed. Told my assessor about organizing a work event flawlessly while my own hydro got cut off for an unpaid bill sitting IN my email — she wrote for a full minute.

The driving record question caught me off guard too and apparently it's legit signal — the stats on ADHD and traffic incidents are a whole research area. Mentioning so nobody reading this panics mid-assessment like I did, convinced my two fender-benders had just diagnosed me with something worse.
