Your FasTreat diagnostic appointment is a secure Zoom video consultation with a licensed provider. Here’s what to expect and how to prepare:

Q5. What happens after I receive a diagnosis through FasTreat?

If you are diagnosed with ADHD or a related mental health condition:

Your clinician will discuss treatment options, which may include medication, lifestyle changes, and other supports.

If medication is appropriate and safe, they may start or adjust treatment and send prescriptions directly to your chosen pharmacy.

  •  

You will be invited to enroll in ongoing care so your provider can monitor progress, adjust doses, and support you over time.

  •  

FasTreat can provide documentation summarising your diagnosis and treatment plan, which you may share with your family doctor or other providers.


If a diagnosis is not made, your clinician will still explain what they observed and suggest alternative next steps or referrals if needed.

Part II. Availability & Eligibility

Q6. Is FasTreat available across Canada?
Yes. FasTreat is available all across Canada, including Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, and more. When you sign up:

Matches you only with clinicians who are licensed to practise and prescribe in your province or territory.


If availability in your region is limited, you'll be notified during sign-up and invited to join our waitlist—with priority access and exclusive discounts when new slots become available.
Q7. Who does FasTreat support?
FasTreat is designed for individuals seeking structured, psychiatry-led mental health care, including those concerned about ADHD or living with an ADHD diagnosis, as well as those seeking support for a broader range of mental health concerns, such as anxiety, low mood, or sleep difficulties.

In Canada, our services currently support people aged 6 and above. For children and teens, please visit our dedicated paediatric service at fastreat.com/en/pediatric.

When you get started, you'll complete a short online screening. Your answers help us understand your symptoms, medical history, and how complex your situation may be. Based on this:

Most people will be able to continue to a full assessment and, if appropriate, treatment with a matched clinician.

  •  

If virtual care isn't the right fit for your needs and in-person support is more appropriate, we won't proceed with online treatment. We'll instead help direct you to relevant resources and services better suited to your situation.

Q8. Who are the clinicians and healthcare providers at FasTreat?
At FasTreat, your care is provided by fully licensed, provincially regulated clinicians with extensive experience in ADHD and broader mental health care, practising within a patient-first, evidence-based approach.

Q9. Are FasTreat clinicians licensed in my province or territory?

All FasTreat clinicians are fully licensed by their respective provincial or territorial regulatory colleges—for example:

Q11. How does FasTreat fit with the public health-care system (e.g., OHIP, MSP, RAMQ)?
FasTreat is a private, self-pay service and is not currently covered by provincial health plans such as OHIP (Ontario), MSP (British Columbia), or RAMQ (Quebec).

Many people choose FasTreat because:

You can choose between two care pathways:

Full FasTreat care: FasTreat manages your psychiatric care end to end, including diagnosis, treatment planning, key psychiatric decisions, and ongoing follow-up, with access to our exclusive educational and community resources.

Shared-care with your family doctor: FasTreat provides the psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations, while your family doctor manages day-to-day prescribing and general medical care, where appropriate.

Part III. Diagnosis & Evaluation

Q12. How thorough is the ADHD assessment compared with in-person clinics or neuropsychological testing?
FasTreat assessments follow evidence-based clinical guidelines for mental health conditions such as ADHD and typically include:

A detailed online intake and symptom questionnaires

  •  

A live video consultation with a licensed clinician (psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, etc.)

  •  

Review of your history and functioning in line with DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and clinical guidelines, including current symptoms, childhood history, and impact on work, school, and relationships

  •  

Screening for common co-existing conditions such as anxiety, depression, or sleep problems


For many adults, this level of assessment is clinically sufficient to make a clear ADHD diagnosis and begin appropriate treatment.

If you need in-depth neuropsychological testing—for example, for complex learning issues, legal matters, or specific academic accommodations—your clinician may recommend additional in-person testing with a local specialist.
Q13. What if my assessment shows that I do not have ADHD? Is the assessment still useful?

Yes. Many people come to FasTreat with questions about ADHD. A full psychiatric assessment can still be very helpful even if ADHD is not diagnosed. Sometimes we find that:

   1. 

Another mental health condition, such as anxiety, depression, or a sleep problem, may be contributing significantly to your symptoms; or

  2. 

There may be no clear psychiatric diagnosis, but reassurance, clinical context, and practical guidance are still valuable.


At FasTreat, you'll be supported by a team of experienced, provincially licensed mental health clinicians with broad training across ADHD and general psychiatry. Our clinicians regularly work with overlapping presentations, allowing them to take a holistic, careful approach to assessment and recommendations. Many patients choose to continue their care with FasTreat even when their final diagnosis is not ADHD.

If a diagnosis is not made, your clinician will:

   1. 

Explain the assessment findings

  2. 

Discuss other possible explanations for your symptoms

  3. 

Suggest appropriate next steps, which may include alternative treatment options at FasTreat or referrals back to your family doctor or to other services


If you feel that the assessment has not been useful in your situation, you can contact our support team via support@fastreat.com to discuss this. In some situations, we may consider a partial refund of the assessment fee, and these requests are reviewed individually. Our aim is that people feel their assessment has provided clear answers and value, regardless of the final diagnosis.
Q14. I already have an ADHD diagnosis. Do I still need a FasTreat assessment?

Yes. Even if you were diagnosed elsewhere, FasTreat still needs to complete a structured assessment before taking over your care. This allows your clinician to:

Confirm your current symptoms and functional impact

  •  

Review your previous treatment history and any side effects

  •  

Check for other conditions that might affect your care

  •  

Ensure your diagnosis and medications remain appropriate and safe


You can upload any prior reports or documentation (for example, neuropsychological assessments or psychiatrist letters). Your clinician will use them to streamline parts of the evaluation where possible, but they will still need to get to know you and your current situation directly.
Q15. If I'm diagnosed, will I get an official diagnosis letter?
Yes. If you are diagnosed through FasTreat, we can provide an official diagnosis letter when clinically appropriate for your situation.

You can request a diagnosis letter easily through your FasTreat patient portal after your assessment. In most cases, letters are prepared within 7–10 business days.

We can also accommodate other medical letter requests, such as accommodation letters. For more details, please visit your FasTreat portal and navigate to the Medical Files & Letters section. Depending on the type of letter requested, a processing fee may apply.

Part IV. Medication & Treatment

Q16. What kinds of ADHD medications might be discussed with me?

FasTreat clinicians follow Canadian guidelines and recommend treatment based on your individual history, health status, and provincial rules. In general, options may include:

   1. 

Stimulant medications (often first-line):

Methylphenidate-based (for example, Ritalin-family, Concerta, Biphentin, Foquest)

      •  

Amphetamine-based (for example, Vyvanse, Adderall XR)

  2. 

Non-stimulant medications, if stimulants are not suitable or tolerated:

Atomoxetine (Strattera)

      •  

Guanfacine XR (Intuniv) or clonidine-based options


Your clinician will explain the potential benefits and risks of each option and work with you to find a plan that feels safe and realistic. Nothing is prescribed automatically; all decisions are made case-by-case after a proper assessment.

Q17. What is the difference between brand name and generic ADHD medications? Does it matter which one I take?

Many ADHD medications are available in both brand name and generic versions. In Canada, generic medications:

   1. 

Contains the same active ingredient as the original brand name product

  2. 

Must meet strict regulatory standards for quality, safety, and effectiveness

  3. 

Are often preferred by public and private drug plans because they are usually less expensive


For many people, a generic version works well and can be a practical way to reduce ongoing costs. In some cases, people may notice differences in how they respond, even when the active ingredient is the same.

Your FasTreat clinician will recommend options based on safety, effectiveness, provincial rules, and your medical history. If you already know a particular product has worked well for you in the past, or you have information about how your insurance treats certain options, please share this during your appointment so it can be taken into account.

Our Partner Pharmacies can also help explain practical differences and check how your plan treats each option, so you can choose an approach that balances clinical needs, coverage, and long term affordability.
Q18. What side effects should I watch for if I start ADHD medication?

Side effects are different for everyone and depend on the medication and dose. Common ones may include:

Reduced appetite or weight changes

  •  

Difficulty falling asleep or lighter sleep

  •  

Headache or feeling “wired” or jittery

  •  

Stomach upset (for example, mild nausea, cramps, or discomfort)


Less commonly, people may notice:

Mood changes or increased anxiety

  •  

Heart palpitations or elevated blood pressure

  •  

Bowel changes (such as constipation or, more rarely, diarrhea)


Your FasTreat clinician will review possible side effects with you before starting treatment and will schedule follow-ups to monitor how you are doing. If you ever experience severe symptoms-such as chest pain, shortness of breath, severe agitation, or thoughts of self-harm—seek emergency care right away and contact your clinician as soon as possible.
Q19. How should I track my response to medication between visits?
You don't need to track everything on your own. At FasTreat, we use structured, evidence-based check-ins through the patient portal so your prescriber can monitor your progress, review side effects, and make safe adjustments when needed.

In general, the check in focuses on a few key areas:

   1. 

How your symptoms are responding over time

  2. 

Any side effects or concerns

  3. 

Whether your current dose still feels appropriate

  4. 

Optional health measures (such as blood pressure or heart rate) if available

  5. 

Anything you want your prescriber to know before the next visit


If you find it helpful, you can also keep brief personal notes—such as changes in focus, sleep, appetite, or mood—to discuss with your clinician at any point during your treatment.
Q20: Do you dispense medication directly, or do you work with pharmacies?
FasTreat does not dispense or ship medication directly. Instead, we partner with a network of pharmacies across Canada that dispense medication, often offer next-day delivery, competitive pricing, and provide integrated support for refills and questions.

When it's clinically appropriate, your FasTreat clinician will write a prescription and send it to the pharmacy you choose – either one of our partner pharmacies or any community pharmacy you prefer. The pharmacy is responsible for dispensing your medication and arranging pick-up or delivery (including next-day delivery where available).

Q21: What if I prefer therapy and don't want to take medication?
Medication is never mandatory at FasTreat. Your clinician will review available options with you and discuss the best course of action, taking into account your preferences and individual circumstances. If you prefer to focus on therapy or coaching, we can provide access to behavioural resources, refer you to trusted partner services when appropriate, or coordinate care alongside a therapist you already work with.

Part V. Ongoing Care Management

Q22. What is the 'Ongoing Care' fee and what's included?
The FasTreat ongoing care programme is for people who decide to move forward with treatment after their assessment. Instead of a one-off visit, it gives you structured, ongoing follow-up with stepwise adjustments, so your care is carefully monitored and refined over time.

This typically includes:

Personalised treatment and medication management with a dedicated clinician

  •  

Secure messaging with your provider and the support team between visits (within clinical and safety guidelines)

  •  

Clinician-monitored symptom tracking and regular follow-up appointments

  •  

Prescription renewals and coordination with your chosen pharmacy where appropriate

Access to member-only resources, such as educational articles, tools and checklists

Q23. Why is there a monthly fee for prescriptions and follow-up care?

Canadian prescribing standards require regular medical follow-up to monitor safety and treatment adherence. FasTreat's ongoing care model is designed to support:

Support with staying on track with your treatment plan (treatment adherence) and addressing concerns early

Without an active care relationship, clinicians cannot safely or ethically continue to prescribe controlled medications on an ongoing basis. The monthly fee supports this ongoing clinical responsibility, including adherence monitoring, and the infrastructure needed to deliver safe care.
Q24. What happens if I pause or cancel my FasTreat plan? Will my prescriptions stop?
For those who choose to move forward with treatment after their assessment, the FasTreat ongoing care programme provides structured, ongoing follow-up to monitor and adjust care over time.

If you pause or cancel your FasTreat plan, we generally cannot continue as your primary prescriber. Routine follow-up visits, dose adjustments, and prescription renewals through FasTreat will stop once any existing prescriptions run out.

If you prefer to have your family doctor manage your ongoing prescriptions, a shared-care plan may be the safest long-term option. Under this model:

FasTreat clinicians provide the psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations.

  •  

Your family doctor manages day-to-day care and prescription renewals.

  •  

You may still see a FasTreat clinician every 3–6 months on a pay-per-visit basis (no monthly fee) to review progress and discuss any necessary adjustments.


Whether shared care is appropriate depends on your individual circumstances and your family doctor’s policies. Before pausing or cancelling your plan, your clinician and our support team can help you explore shared-care options or support a transition to a local provider to ensure continuity of care.
Q25. Can my family doctor take over my treatment after I start with FasTreat?
Yes. FasTreat is designed to work alongside your local health-care team and to support a shared-care structure when it's appropriate. In this model, our mental health specialists provide the initial diagnosis and help set up a clear treatment plan, and your family doctor can then become your main prescriber and day-to-day point of contact.

To make this easier, FasTreat can provide:

A summary of your diagnostic assessment

  •  

Your current diagnosis and treatment plan

  •  

A list of medications tried, doses, and any side effects


Your family doctor will review this information and decide whether to continue, modify, or repeat parts of the assessment based on their own clinical judgment and local standards. When possible, we're happy to support a smooth handover and ongoing shared-care arrangements, as described above.

Q26. How much does FasTreat cost?

Q27. Can FasTreat services be reimbursed through public or private insurance?
FasTreat is a private healthcare provider and is not covered by provincial insurance plans (e.g. OHIP, MSP, RAMQ). We also don't bill insurance directly.

However, many patients are able to submit their receipts for partial or full reimbursement through:

Health spending accounts (HSAs)

Some student or employee assistance programmes


After each visit, you'll receive a detailed receipt that includes your clinician's professional designation. Because coverage varies widely, we recommend contacting your insurer in advance and asking whether virtual appointments with licensed psychiatrists or nurse practitioners are eligible under your plan.

Medication costs are separate from FasTreat service fees. Whether your ADHD medication is reimbursed depends on your specific drug plan (public or private). Q28. How much will ADHD medication cost each month?

The cost of ADHD medication can vary widely. It depends on:

   1.  

The specific medication and dose

  2.  

Whether you use a brand name or generic version

  3.  

Your province and pharmacy

  4.  

Any public or private drug coverage you have


As an example, a common long acting ADHD medication for adults taken once a day may be around 150-200 CAD per month at the full brand price. A generic version of a similar medication can be closer to 50 CAD per month before any insurance or other reductions are applied. These figures are approximate and may change over time.

If cost is a concern, mention this early during your visit. In many cases, discussing generic options is one of the most direct ways to reduce the monthly cost.

Depending on the medication, switching from brand to generic can substantially reduce the price. In some cases, the total reduction in out of pocket cost can reach around 70% to 100%, depending on your specific medication, province, dose, and how your coverage is processed. In addition, some of our partner pharmacies may have access to cost saving or patient support programs for certain brand medications, which may further reduce your cost depending on eligibility and plan rules. Q29. Can my medication be covered by a public or private drug plan?
Yes, many people can reduce out of pocket costs through public coverage, private coverage, or a combination of both. How it works depends on your province and your plan.

1.  

Public drug plans

    a.  

In British Columbia, some ADHD medications can be partly covered through PharmaCare once income based criteria are met.

    b.  

In Ontario, coverage may be available through OHIP+ (ages 0–24), the Ontario Drug Benefit (65+), or the Trillium Drug Program for eligible adults with high prescription costs relative to income, and in some cases our team and the pharmacy can help guide you on what information is needed.

    c.  

In Quebec, certain ADHD medications require a specific code on the prescription for coverage, and our clinicians use this when clinically appropriate.

The above are examples only. Coverage and eligibility depend on each individual's situation, and our team can work with our partner pharmacies to advise you accordingly.


2.  

Private or employer drug plans

Many people have coverage through workplace or student benefits. Depending on your plan, the pharmacy may bill your insurer directly, or you may need to submit receipts for reimbursement.


If you are unsure what coverage you have, the pharmacy team can often help you check what your plan does and does not cover at the point of dispensing.
Q30. If I am prescribed a brand name ADHD medication, are there ways to reduce what I pay for?
In many cases, there may be options to reduce the amount you pay, although pricing and eligibility ultimately depend on manufacturers, insurers, and pharmacy billing rules.

Depending on your situation, potential approaches may include:

Discussing whether a generic version could meet your needs from a clinical and coverage perspective

  2.  

We and our partner pharmacies can help check whether there is an eligible manufacturer cost saving or patient support programme for your specific brand name medication, and support you through the application process if applicable.

  3.  

Coordinating these options with any public or private drug coverage you already have. The final out of pocket cost can depend on deductibles, plan rules, and how a claim is processed at dispensing.


FasTreat does not run manufacturer programmes or control whether a specific programme is available in a given province. That's why we work with a network of partner pharmacies. They can help check what cost saving or patient support options may apply in your case and support you through any enrolment steps where applicable.

If you already know a certain product works well for you, or you are aware of specific rules in your drug plan, please share this with both your clinician and your pharmacist so they can make recommendations that take into account your clinical needs and likely ongoing costs.

Part VII. Cancellation & Medical Letter Policies

Q31. What is the cancellation or no-show fee for missed appointments?

Because appointment times are reserved specifically for you, last-minute changes and missed visits may be subject to a cancellation or no-show fee. In some cases, part of this fee may be credited toward a rebooked appointment; if you have questions or need help rescheduling, please contact our support team. A fee may apply if:

You cancel or reschedule with less notice than stated in the policy, or

  •  

You do not attend your appointment without notice.

Q32. What medical documents can I request from FasTreat, and what are the associated costs and processing times?
At FasTreat, we aim to provide timely access to the medical documents you may need. All document requests are subject to review and approval by your provider. Your provider will decide whether they can support your request, and approval is not guaranteed.

Custom templates and forms:
If you use your own accommodation template or another custom form, you will need to upload it when submitting your request. The final fee is based on the number of pages your provider actually completes.

Payment:
Your provider will first review your request. If it is approved, your card on file will only be charged when the completed document is released to you. For multi-page templates, the final charge will be based on the confirmed number of pages completed.

How to apply:
Log in to the FasTreat Patient Portal, go to Profile, and submit your document request using the self-service option.

Requirements may vary between employers, universities and other organizations. Please confirm their requirements before submitting your request and provide any relevant instructions or templates to FasTreat.

Q33. Is FasTreat a legitimate platform? How do I know I can trust you?

Yes. FasTreat is a legitimate telehealth platform focused on ADHD and related mental-health conditions. Our model is:

Your privacy and data security are core to how FasTreat operates:

Part IX. Crisis Support & Limitations

Q35. I'm in a crisis, how do I get help?
If you are in crisis, feel unsafe, or are worried about your immediate safety, please contact emergency or crisis services right away. FasTreat is not an emergency service and our clinicians cannot respond in real time.

In Canada, you can:
