My journey into psychiatry has been shaped by over 25 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in mental health, working closely with individuals across a wide spectrum of psychiatric conditions. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with multidisciplinary teams and supported patients with complex needs, developing a strong foundation in compassionate, evidence-based care. I have since advanced my practice as a Nurse Practitioner, with a particular focus on ADHD and Autism. This specialization is deeply personal, as I have spent the past 16 years studying autism following my own son’s diagnosis. Navigating the healthcare system firsthand has given me a profound understanding of its challenges and gaps. This lived experience, combined with my clinical expertise, allows me to advocate effectively for patients and families. My goal is to empower individuals by providing informed, compassionate care that helps them overcome barriers and achieve their personal best.
My approach to treating ADHD is comprehensive and evidence-based. I believe cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the gold standard, as it helps patients understand how the ADHD brain functions, regulate intense emotions, and develop effective coping strategies. Elevated anxiety often exacerbates ADHD symptoms, while reduced anxiety allows symptoms to become more manageable; in many cases, anxiety is secondary to untreated ADHD. Medication can be an effective adjunct, improving focus, concentration, motivation, organization, and overall executive functioning when combined with therapy.and patient-centred goals to create sustainable improvements.
Telepsychiatry has the potential to significantly improve access to ADHD care, addressing the critical shortage of primary care providers and mental health specialists. Many patients struggle to receive timely evaluations and interventions due to the limited number of clinicians available relative to the growing demand. This gap often delays essential care, leaving patients without support when they need it most. Telehealth offers a solution by connecting patients with qualified providers remotely, reducing geographic and scheduling barriers. Through virtual platforms, care can be delivered more efficiently, ensuring timely assessments, individualized treatment, and ongoing support—ultimately improving outcomes for those with ADHD.
After their first session with me, I hope my patients feel truly heard, understood, and supported, recognizing that they are not alone in their experiences. Many have struggled in silence for years, carrying challenges that have felt overwhelming and isolating. My goal is to create a space where their feelings are validated and their experiences acknowledged, helping them realize that their struggles are seen and accepted. I want them to leave with a sense of hope, relief, and gratitude, feeling empowered and no longer trapped by the difficulties in their mind, and confident that positive change is possible.
Starting my journey with Fastreat has been an inspiring experience. Every client I meet brings a unique story, and I am truly grateful for the trust they place in me. It touches my heart to guide them through their challenges and support them in reaching their personal goals. Even more rewarding are the follow-up appointments, when I see the joy and peace reflected in their eyes. Witnessing their growth, confidence, and renewed sense of hope brings me immense satisfaction and reinforces why I am so passionate about this work.
ADHD support, to me, means providing compassionate guidance, practical strategies, and encouragement that empower each individual to understand themselves, overcome challenges, and reach their personal best.
