Why do I ‘zone out’ during intimacy or serious talks?
I can be present at the start, then my mind drifts—even during intimacy or serious conversations—and my partner feels rejected. How common is this with ADHD, and what strategies help stay engaged?

This is surprisingly common in ADHD and is usually about attention regulation, not emotional disengagement. Intense or emotionally loaded moments can actually increase cognitive load. Your brain may drift as it tries to manage emotion, sensory input, and focus at the same time.
Clinicians often explain this as mental overload rather than lack of care. Zoning out can happen even when the connection matters deeply. Open communication and reducing pressure in the moment often helps more than trying to force focus.
