Absolutely. Task switching difficulty, sometimes called cognitive inertia, is a hallmark ADHD feature. Once the brain locks onto a task, shifting gears requires a lot of effort. Transitions involve stopping one mental state and starting another, which can feel uncomfortable or jarring. This is why interruptions feel so disruptive and why changing tasks can trigger irritability or resistance. Clinicians often recommend transition buffers, warnings, or rituals to help the brain disengage more smoothly. Difficulty switching does not mean rigidity. It means transitions are neurologically costly.
