Decision overwhelm is very common in ADHD. Each choice requires working memory, prioritization, and emotional regulation. When executive function is already taxed, even small decisions can feel huge. The brain struggles to quickly filter options and move forward. This can lead to avoidance, frustration, or shutdown. Clinically, this is why simplifying choices, reducing decision volume, and using defaults or routines can be so helpful. The overwhelm is not about indecisiveness. It is about cognitive load.
