Where do you draw the line between risky drinking and Alcohol Use Disorder in practice?
I don't drink every day, but when I do it's often more than I intended. From a diagnostic point of view, how do you draw the line between social drinking with some bad habits and something you'd class as Alcohol Use Disorder?

I look at patterns, consequences, and loss of control. Drinking more than intended, difficulty cutting back, craving, and continued use despite harm suggest Alcohol Use Disorder. Risky drinking may involve occasional overuse without persistent impairment. Frequency, impact on work or relationships, and withdrawal symptoms also matter. We approach this without judgment. Honest discussion allows early intervention before patterns worsen.
