I’m trying to figure out whether my constant delaying is actual ADHD or just plain bad habits.
Clinically, how do you tell the difference?

This is such an insightful question. Procrastination is often framed as a choice. ADHD avoidance is usually a regulation block. The person wants to start but feels mentally stuck, overwhelmed, or unable to sequence the first step.
ADHD related avoidance often improves when structure, urgency, or novelty is introduced. Once engaged, the person may work intensely. That pattern suggests executive dysfunction rather than simple delay.
We assess emotional tone. Is there shame and frustration about not starting? That leans toward ADHD. Is it consistent across low interest tasks? That also supports it.
Understanding the difference reduces self blame and helps guide targeted strategies.
